MOSIX Distributions for Linux-2.6

MOSIX version 2 (MOSIX2) for Linux-2.6 can manage a Linux cluster and a multi-cluster.

Main cluster features
  • Provides a single-system image: users can login on any cluster node, they do not need to know where their programs run, link application with special libraries or copy files to remote nodes.
  • Automatic resource discovery.
  • Dynamic workload distribution by preemptive process migration from slower to faster nodes, for load-balancing and if nodes run out of free memory.
  • Direct communication between migrated processes.
  • Migrated (guest) processes run in a sandbox.
  • Live queuing, batch jobs, checkpoints.
  • Supports both 32 & 64-bit x86 architectures.
  • Automatic installation and configuration.
  • on-line monitors.
  • Additional multi-cluster features
  • Disruptive configurations: clusters can join or be disconnected at any time.
  • Guest processes move out before disconnecting a cluster.
  • Clusters can be shared symmetrically or asymmetrically.
  • Cluster owner can assign different priorities to guest processes from other clusters.
  • Further information is available in the latest release and changelog, the MOSIX2 white paper, the MOSIX wiki, our CCGrid papers, the Overview of MOSIX2 presentation, the MOSIX2 Tutorial and the HUGI campus multi-cluster web page.
